Evaluation Question 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

  • iMac (as a base for research, to edit and produce my magazine, poster and trailer)
  • Canon Mini DV (to film our trailer, behind the scenes, and location recces)
  • SLR (to take images for my poster and magazine)

  • Blogger (to present all of my work in research and planning, filming, and evaluation)
  • Final Cut (to edit and produce my teaser trailer)
  • Internet (to research poster, magazine and other teaser trailers. E.g. Google, You Tube)
  • Facebook (the main focus of our film, it has a high involvement so i used to site to reflect off for my magazine)
  • GarageBand (to record my voice for podcasts and make my blog more interactive, sound tests)
  • iShowU (to show the examiner what i had done so far, at each stage)
  • Prezi (to show my publication plan for my magazine)
  • PowerPoint (when completed, i took a screen grab of the prop list i produced)

Evaluation Question 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Evaluation Question 2: How effective is the combination of your main products and ancillary tasks?

Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media products use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

    • Teaser trailer
    Use
    - Title, shown towards the end, which is 'Offline'
    - 'Coming Soon' shown straight after the title
    - Conventional voice-over throughout
    - Production/distribution company shown at the beginning
    - Typical horror genre aspects: action, fast pace editing, dark scenes, low-key lighting, Carol Clover's Final Girl theory, implied male as villain and female as victim.

    Develop
    - The trailer is based around the social networking site, Facebook.

    Challenge
    - You get a good sense of our story in our trailer as you see quite a lot more of the narrative, there are images of Georgia that look a bit haunting, and it looks unlikely that she survies; however, she is supposed to be the final girl.

    • Magazine
    Use
    - The biggest font is for the masthead, 'Close Up'
    - There are sub stories down the right hand side
    - Barcode
    - Price.

    Develop
    - I have used more text and less images as you might not normally expect on a magazine front cover.

    Challenge
    - The page is set out like what you would see on a computer screen, a lot to do with the social networking element
    - The title of film is not as big as you would normally expect; however, the size i have used works well with the layout and the inspiration i got from the Facebook page.

    • Poster
    Use
    - Huge font for the title of the film, 'Offline', cast and crew information at the bottom, image

    Develop
    - The picture of Georgia being tortured is inside the text, which is quite usual.

    Challenge
    - The fact that i have just included a few colours (blue and black) which i have done as it is related to the Facebook colour scheme, of blue.

    Research and Planning: Poster Final

    • This is my final draft of my poster.
    • What i have done to improve it is: add an image of a girl on her computer, as if she is on the social networking site, Facebook, which our film is based around. I then faded the image into the black background so that the image is highlighted. I also edited the image to have a tint of blue, relating to the Facebook aspect.
    • I have also moved the title, 'Offline' to the top of the page so that there is enough room to see the right amount of the image.
    • The tagline, 'You have been tagged' has been moved up aswell, so that it is placed underneath the title, and made a little smaller, again so there is enough room for the image.
    • I have put an inner glow onto the title so that it stands out more and you know it is the most important part of the poster.

    Research and Planning: Poster Progess

    • Here is my poster up to now. I struggled with getting started with producing it as i had so many ideas and wanted to make it perfect for my film. I think i have made a good start and i am going to stick with this idea

    Research and Planning: Poster Idea

    • Here is a poster i found from research that i really liked and decided i wanted my poster to follow the same conventions.
    • I like the picture inside the title as i think it tells a lot of the story through this.
    • The image of the woods leaves you guessing what else there is to the narrative.

    Research and Planning: Rough Cut

This is the rough cut of our trailer. The improvements we have to make are the editing effects and transitions, and to cut it down to make it a lot shorter.
